Turkish Contingent of the UN Ivory Coast Republic Police Mission Extends Aid to the Locals on Turkey’s 84th Anniversary of National Independence Day Celebrations The Turkish Contingent of the UN Ivory Coast Republic Police Mission celebrated the 84th anniversary of Republic Day on October 29, 2007 in Abidjan, the capital of the Ivory Coast Republic. The costs incurred for the ceremony were covered from the fund of Keeping and Supporting the Peace (BDK) that is allocated to our contingent by the Foreign Relations Chamber Presidency of the General Directorate of Security. A brief description of the activities follows: The interior and the exterior walls of the Police Station of the province of Abobo, which is located in the center of Abidjan, were whitewashed and painted as well as its doors, windows, and halls. In addition, two sign-in books for visitors, criminals, and convicts, one package of photocopy paper, and different types and amounts of stationary goods were bought and presented to the department’s staff. Also carried out was the whitewashing and painting of all the interior and exterior walls of the SOS Orphanage, which consists of 10 buildings located in the Abobo Province; restoration of the buildings was also undertaken. In addition, basketballs and footballs, 6 notebooks and 10 school sets consisting of different pens and pencils, pencil sharpeners, erasers, and rulers, were bought as gifts for the orphans. For the Cocody Primary School and Kindergarten, which is located in Cocody Province, a 4-seat swing, slide, and merry-go-round were built for a playground for the school children. To cover the school material needs of the children, pen/pencils, notebooks, small blackboards, pastels, watercolors, dolls, and introductory plates were bought. On the U.N. Mission Sebreko Campus, which is located in Abidjan, a Republic Day Cocktail Party was organized. Among the 60 visitors who attended the event were UN Ivory Coast Mission Private Agent Mr. Abou Moussa, UN Ivory Coast Mission Private Agent Adjunct Mr. Georg Charpentier, UN Police Mission (United Nations Police- UNPOL) Police Chief Proxy Colonel Pierre- André Campiche, UNPOL Chief of Staff Mr. Gilbert Adolphe, and many other high ranking UNPOL and UN agents and guests.
An information program on Turkey was broadcast by the United Nations Operations in the Ivory Coast (Opération des Nations Unies en Côte d’Ivoire-ONUCI) FM radio which is currently operated by the UN Ivory Coast Mission. Ivory Coast Turkish Police Contingent President 4th Class Chief of Police Mr. Ersin Aktas was invited as the guest speaker and presented an enjoyable discussion concerning Turkey.
